ONLINE DRIVER EDUCATION INFORMATION & PRECAUTIONS

J&R Schugel is now offering Web2Road e-learning platform for your on-boarding needs. Drivers have the ability to complete orientation or certification class from the comfort of their own homes. This is just one more effort J&R Schugel has implemented in hopes to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.

It will still be necessary for drivers to come to a terminal location for road tests as well as physicals and drug screens, if they have not been completed beforehand. With this in mind, we wanted to remind you of the following protective procedures we have implemented at our facilities:

  • Installation of sanitizer stations
  • Increased disinfection of all facilities
  • Screening visitors and new hires for Coronavirus symptoms
  • Wearing rubber gloves when working on trucks
  • Wearing masks when entering trucks
  • Signage promoting good hygiene and social distancing
  • Monitoring of potential COVID-19 cases
  • Requiring self-quarantine as needed
  • Contaminated trucks will be placed out of service until disinfection is completed
  • Using fog machines with disinfectant chemicals for trucks, orientation rooms, break rooms and bathrooms

If attending class in Columbus, OH; New Ulm, MN; or Ellenwood, GA please wear a face covering before entering any indoor public spaces including but not limited to; our facilities, motel and restaurants. Face covering means a piece of cloth, fabric, or other material that fully covers the mouth and nose that is secured with ear straps or otherwise ties so as to prevent slipping. Face coverings may be factory-made or may be handmade and improvised from household materials. Not limited to bandanas, scarves, medical masks, N95 masks or cloth masks.

Be assured we are still running strong at J&R Schugel. We primarily haul general commodities and household goods which are in high demand during this unprecedented time. Now more than ever, we need drivers like you to keep up with freight demands and deliver essential goods to the consumers.

Do truck drivers really make good money?

Can I make good money driving? That’s the question everyone wants to know, right? The answer is yes. And no. Because a lot of it depends on the carrier you choose!

If you’re searching for a carrier to work for, then you’ve probably noticed that pay rates aren’t the same across the board. Some carriers pay their drivers less per mile while others pay significantly more. You might also find that some carriers don’t offer their drivers much in terms of benefits and bonus pay incentives, but other companies have a long list of extras.

At J&R Schugel, we’re proud that our drivers can earn up to $90,000 a year in total compensation when you add in the average employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) account value, accessorial pay and bonuses. If you’re wondering what exactly that all looks like, here’s a breakdown of our total compensation package:

Pay

Solo J&R Schugel company drivers average 2,500-2,800 miles per week and earn up to 55 CPM. Team drivers average 5,500-6,500 per week and earn up to 65 CPM, split.

Accessorial pay and incentives

Our drivers love that we offer a huge $15,000 sign-on bonus and paid orientation. We also provide accessorial pay for stops, detention and layovers, and our performance-plus-pay incentive earns drivers up to an additional 5 CPM every month. Sharing your love for J&R Schugel gets you paid too - earn an additional $2,000 per hired driver through our driver referral program.

ESOP

J&R Schugel is proud to be a 100% employee-owned company. Our drivers love the benefits of an ESOP - a qualified retirement plan that gives our employees an ownership interest in our company. We make all the contributions into this account - as a driver, you won’t have to contribute a thing. A new J&R Schugel employee who is over 18 years old becomes an elligible participant as of January 1 or July 1 following 12 consecutive months of service from their hire date plus 1,000 hours worked.

Paid vacation

Our drivers get paid vacation and holidays.

Retirement planning

In addition to our ESOP, company drivers are also able to save for retirement with a 401(k) plan.
